World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn has revealed that the world snooker championship might get cancelled if ruled out for the second time due to the outbreak of CoronaVirus.
Hearn said - " I'd rather get it on at the crucible or have nothing". The world championship was supposed to start by the 18th April till the 5th of May but due to the pandemic, it had to be postponed.

I don't want to lose the world championship. It's an important thing for the sport and for millions of TV audiences across the globe
Although there is a alternative date for the world snooker championship but if that doesn't get allowance by the UK government, the championship might just be cancelled.

Depending on the government's advice, the world snooker officials have stated that they have 3 options -

  1. Playing matches with reduced crowd
  2. Playing behind closed doors
  3. Postpone the event to a later date
"To be honest, if you went past the alternative date, you would have to say that you would cancel the event for a year but that will be a sad loss for the players and the audience"

"These are difficult times for any sport in general. No one really knows what we're doing and hopefully the government will shed some light on this matter in a couple of days"

Hearn feels playing the matches behind closed doors will be the right solution as the other sport events have been cancelled this year.
Judd Trump is due to defend his title this year. He won the snooker world championship in 2019 by beating John Higgins 18-9 in the final.
